Film jean de florette

Two 1920s farmers engage in a bitter rivalry as one tries to tend to a plot of land and the ot. They are adaptations of marcel pagnols novels of the same name. They are great entertainment and also a fascinating study in human. Yves montand and daniel auteuil play uncle and nephew both are rogues. Intent on growing expensive flowers, he conspires with his uncle, cesar yves montand, to gain access to a hidden spring on a neighboring property.

Jean gerard depardieu leaves his job in the city and brings his wife and little daughter, manon, to live on the farm he has just inherited. The definition of the current bluray technology sometimes gets a little stretched when it is applied to the rejuvenation of older film material. She plots vengeance on the men whose greedy conspiracy to acquire her fathers land caused his death years earlier. A greedy landowner and his backward nephew conspire to block the only water source for an adjoining property in order to bankrupt the owner and force him to sell. Its the story of how two provincial french farmers systematically destroy the happiness of a man who comes out from the city to till the land. Watching this film is like taking a trip to the french countryside of provence. French director claude berri and cinematographer bruno nuytten set their twopart morality play against a backdrop of gorgeous french countryside full of colorchanging leaves and wildflowers, tangled thickets and bubbling rivulets. Anyone who has not seen these two wonderful films, well really just one film, should do so. There are dirt paths through thickets and along ancient stone walls that shore up the edges of terraced vineyards. His story, set in the bucolic hillside of provence, is a lesson in the power of nature of the land in its capacity for sustaining life and destroying it. With yves montand, gerard depardieu, daniel auteuil, elisabeth depardieu.

The plot revolves around a city man who inherits a rundown farm in the french countryside who moves there with his wife and young daughter to pursue the dream of an idealized country life. Only the people are ugly, as if to underline the theme. In this acclaimed french drama, the enterprising ugolin soubeyran daniel auteuil returns to his native countryside after the serving in the military. The film takes place in rural provence, where two local farmers scheme to trick a newcomer out of his newly inherited property. Petit et laid, ugolin, le dernier des soubeyran, revient du service militaire. Each of the principal actors in the cast does an outstanding job interpreting his or her role. Directed by claude berri, it is the second of two films adapted from the 1966 twovolume novel by marcel pagnol, who wrote it based on his own earlier film of the same title. Although this film is sublime, i think it would be a wise choice to see the following film, manon des sources, as it gives the whole story through both the films. When he inherits a little land in provence, he is only too happy to pack up his loyal wife and beautiful child and move to the country for a new beginning. It is a deceptively simple tale and for that reason was likely to appeal to a broader and more adult base than many of the other films around at the time. When a film is set in a lovely, scenic bit of french countryside, its easy to assume that its going to be a sappy affair.
